About Rainbow's End
Rainbow's End Library is located in a peaceful country setting just southwest of Leavenworth at 17209 McIntyre Road, Map . Owned and operated by Joan Schermbeck, a native of Leavenworth, the goal of Rainbow's End is to provide free, non-denominational Christian materials which glorify the risen Lord Jesus Christ. While the library's main focus is on edifying those who are already Christians, it is also concerned with teaching others of the need to accept Jesus as savior. To learn more, please visit the Salvation page. Open two weekends each month from 2 to 4 pm, Rainbow's End operates on an honor's system, with materials checked out for two to four weeks at a time. While there is no set due date, and no fines are assessed, everyone benefits from a prompt return of borrowed items. Over the years Rainbow's End has collected over 5,000 Christian adult books as well as hundreds of Christian books written for children of all ages. All the books are cataloged in the library's computer, which may be searched by category, title, or author. There are over one hundred forty video tapes and many audio cassettes available, although they are not currently listed in the computer. The children's section has over thirty Adventures in Odyssey audio tape sets, plus single cassettes. For those who are musical, there is a small collection of hymnals and praise music available for checkout. For those who are unable to return items during regular library hours, a green drop box for books by the front door may be used at any time. (Please do not place videos or cassettes in this box as they are easily damaged by books falling on top of them.) Joan's sense of fun greets the visitor from the moment the car is parked near a large propane tank painted like a Holstein cow. Joan loves visiting with people and being able to bless them with the materials God has placed in her hands. She has reserved a space in the main area of the library just for visiting or playing dominoes and games. Another popular spot for socializing is in the front yard under the giant elm tree. A wooden swing dangles from a large branch, beckoning children. Often parents chat with Joan while children swing or play on the spacious grounds. Children also enjoy "earning" a special piece of candy by reciting a memory verse, singing a song, or playing a musical instrument. Rainbow's End has a piano in the adult book area which visitors are always welcome to play.
Rainbow's End excitedly accepts book donations; and a "Blessing Box" is available for monetary contributions. The library participates in the Best Choice Save-A-Label program, receiving thirty dollars for every 1,000 labels sent in. During 2005, $150 was raised solely through the Best Choice program. Of course Rainbow's End can always use volunteers for data entry, book re-shelving, and more. Check out the Volunteer and Donate pages for more information. Rainbow's End is open the second and fourth weekends each month from 2 to 4 p.m. during the school year. (Check the Home page for the specific dates.) Whether you crave a little fellowship, are looking for home school resources, or just need to relax, Rainbow's End is the place. So come on out...check it out...you will be glad you did.
